Welcome to Mrs. Goote's kindergarten class! We began the year with a visit
with our parents. We did a craft together and made our names. It was fun to work together as a class and meet all of our new friends!

Lunch!
Did you ever wonder what lunch looked like in our room? It is a time where we can all sit together and just talk with each other. We often have whole class conversations as we eat together. Some of their conversations are very interesting!
A tour of the garden with Mr. VanTil and digging up potatoes!
We got to visit the garden twice with Mr. VanTil. The first time that we went we learned about the different vegetables that Mr. VanTil had planted. We got to smell the dill, taste the tomatoes, feel the fuzzy leaves and pick some of the corn. We also set one of our Monarch butterflies free on one of the zinnias. The second time that we visited the garden we helped Mr. VanTil dig up some of the potatoes. We dug up lots of big potatoes and got to take one home with us.
Patterning
We have had a lot of fun with our patterning unit. We especially had fun making patterns with a partner using unifix cubes.
Outdoor Education
As part of our partnership with Blandford Nature Center, Mrs. Staal came to our class and we became "Fall Explorers". We went out into the nature center and looked for things in nature that were on our checklist. We found holes in logs, flying insects, and holes in the ground. We used our 5 senses on a Sassafras leaf: we looked at it, we smelled it, we listened to it, we touched it and we even tasted it! At the end of the adventure, Mrs. Stall made us different kinds of squirrels and we had to hide 10 kernels of corn for the winter. I am trying to include a video of us hiding our corn. It was hilarious! That will come soon :)
Centers
We tried "center time" for the first time this week. The kids really liked it. It gave them a chance to work in small groups at 5 different tasks. We spent 12 minutes at each table. It went really well for our first time but 12 minutes goes by really fast!!
Jump with Jill
Mrs. VerKaik won a contest and got a visit from the Jump with Jill program. We did a lot of exercising and learned a lot about how to keep our bodies healthy. Most of the pictures that I took didn't capture the amount of movement that we did!
Box Tops for Education Winners!!
We are excited to announce that our class collected the most Box Tops for the month of October!! We get to keep the trophy in our classroom until the next winner is announced and we will get an extra gym time. Thanks for all your help and keep sending Box Tops in!!
Scuttle and a Police Car!
Just before the 8th graders performed the play "The Little Mermaid", the character of Scuttle came to read us the story of The Little Mermaid. We were so excited because it was Payton's sister Brooke!
Also, Addie's dad came to show us his police car. It was a great week!

Letting God's Love Bubble Over!
Today we worked with the 3rd grade students to put together
chemo packs. We took all of the items that were donated by PreK-5th
graders this fall and put them together in a Ziploc bag. The items we
packed were- bottled water, tissues, lip balm, hand lotion, hand sanitizer,
candy or gum, and a hand made card. We had a great time working together
and then joined to pray for those who will receive these packs. When we
have God's love inside of us, we can't help but bubble over and give to
others!
Valentine's Day
Blandford Nature Center - Birds
Mrs. Janet (Staal) came from Blandford Nature Center to introduce us to winter birds. She brought with her an Eastern Screech Owl that lives at the nature center. After we identified different tools that a bird uses, we went into our nature center to listen for, and look for different winter birds. There was SO MUCH SNOW!! It was beautiful, deep, untouched snow! It was so much fun!
We are 100 days smarter!!
We spent the week doing lots of fun activities with the number 100. We made special hats and necklaces to wear on 100 day and we made a very special snack. It is amazing all the things that we have done in the 100 days that God has given us to be together! Thanks to everyone who helped make this a very special day/week for us!
Butterflies at Meijer Garden
To celebrate our unit on Insects, we visited Meijer Garden to see the Butterflies are Blooming. God sent us a beautiful sunny day and we saw hundreds of butterflies! We went into the Children's Garden and finally ended up at the Horse. What at great day we had! I tried to get pictures of everyone but I had a hard time keeping up with the kids! Here are ALL the pictures that I took! enjoy :)
Minions!!
On Wednesday our classroom was invaded by minions! Trey's brother and his 2 friends came to our room and we made a minion project. Thank you to Blake Verbeek, Sam Elliott, and Brady Debat!
